Message from Bob Walker
For the benefit of all our new members, who we heartily welcome, a quick run down of handicaps and competitions.

Any new Members who do not have a handicap at the Manor of Groves should provide proof of handicap from either a previous club or golf society. This can either be handed to a member of staff or posted in either the Competition Entry or Score Card box (located in the Clubhouse below the main notice board).

Members without a handicap should post three completed and witnessed score cards in the Score Card Box. Monthly medals and stablefords, for men, ladies and juniors are played every month, including the winter provided the course is compliant, alternating on Saturdays and Sundays. Midweek medals and stablefords for men and ladies are played from May to September. Entry is in the Pro's shop for men and juniors. Ladies enter in their changing room. The six monthly medals played between April and September qualify for an order of merit award.

All Board competitions are advertised in the Club Fixture List and notices are posted six weeks before each competition in the men's changing room lobby and the ladies' changing room. Look out for notices about other competitions posted on the main club notice board. These will generally be about more 'recreational' events like the four Texas Scrambles played throughout the year and the other events involving both men and women.

All members should note that unless they have recently submitted proof of handicap they shold have played in at least three medals or stablefords to be eligible for most competitions.

Competition and handicap processing at the Manor of Groves is carried out on a computerised system and handicap certificates, playing records and competition results are available if required.

Competition entry fees, excluding sweep and the "two's" entry which go directly to the Pro Shop, are banked and managed by the Committee separately from the Proprietary Golf Club business. This money is used to maintain and improve the computer and other administrative systems, to pay for the new Honours Boards and perpetual and momento trophies.

We are grateful to the proprietors for paying for the Honours Board signwriting each year.

Finally, if members would like to be involved with or have any questions about handicaps and competitions , please do not hesitate to ask either me or a member of the committee.
