The Manor of Groves - A History (Edwardian Era)
Prior to 1965, The Manor of Groves was owned by Mr Cyril Egerton (his son Francis who spent part of his childhood there is now the 7th Duke of Sutherland); he and his family lived there for about 10 years.
Before the Egertons, the Buxton family owned it and lived there for two generations (Henry Fowell Buxton and his son , Major John Fowell Buxton). Major John married Katherine Mary Bacon, daughter of Sir Nicholas Henry Bacon (12th & 13th Bt) in 1930. Major John Buxton died in 1970 at the age of 67. John's son, Henry Alexander Fowell Buxton, still lives locally, near Ware.
